Five Signs That You Need to Paint Your Home's Interior
Is it time to repaint the interior of your home? The following signs may indicate that you need to pull out the paint samples and call a painting service in your area.
1. Color Fading
Color fading is one of the more common issues with fading interior paint. The color tends to fade on the parts of a wall most exposed to light, so you may notice lighter spots in areas that get hit with daily sunlight. Fading can also become obvious if you move around wall art, since the parts of the wall previously covered by art may be darker in color. A fresh coat or two of paint fixes the issue.
2. Permanent Stains
Most stains can wipe off walls, particularly if the old paint is semi-gloss or gloss finish. Unfortunately, some stains may soak into the paint and become impossible to remove. Certain foods, such as spilled wine and those foods with red dyes, are common culprits for paint stains. Over time stains from fingerprints and shoe scuffs can also build up to the point of nearly impossible removal. A coat of primer followed by fresh paint covers all stains.
3. Wall Damage
Unless your walls have been painted in the last year or two, any type of wall damage that requires repair will also require a full coat of fresh paint so that minor color differences due to fading on the old wall surface compared to the patched area doesn't show. If you have recently patched a hole in the wall or repaired water-damaged drywall, then repainting the affected wall -- if not the whole room -- is recommended.
4. Paint Failure
Old paint will often just start to give out as it ages. You may notice fine cracks in the surface of the paint, for example, which look bad and trap grime. Peeling and flaking can also occur, particularly in humid environments or damp rooms like the bathroom. Another common issue with old paint, particularly on walls that get a lot of sunshine, is chalking. This is when UV damage causes the top surface of the paint to powder and break down. Repainting is the only solution for all of these problems.
5. Design Updates
Sometimes the paint is in great condition but the color looks dated or no longer works with your style or home decor. In this case, new paint is an excellent and cost-effective way to give a room a super quick facelift that carries a big impact.
